Facilitation and Training

Consultants and Taylor Newberry Consulting often facilitate planning sessions and community forums.  Some of these events are one component in a larger research project, but we also facilitate “one-off” meetings and events.   Our approach to facilitation emphasizes clarity of purpose, an engaging style, and good process.
We are also experienced trainers.  We run workshops on topics related to our work for a wide variety of audiences at universities, conferences, or community meetings.

Sample projects:

Facilitation of an Employability Forum for Federally Sentenced Women (2010)

Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council

  • TNC contributed to the planning and development of a community forum of over 120 attendees in Kitchener Ontario to discuss the experiences of federally sentenced women in gaining employment after discharge from prison.  TNC facilitated the forum and group discussions.

Facilitation of a Community of Practice on Access to Recreational Services for Children and Youth (2011-2012)

Lyle S. Hallman Foundation

  • TNC facilitated a series of meetings with five organizations that had received grants to improve access to services for youth.   All five were creating new spaces designed to help them connect with children, youth and families in innovative ways.   Community of practice sessions focused on developing a shared model of access and documenting lessons learned.

Instruction of Continuing Education Course on Program Planning and Evaluation for Social Work Professionals (2010-present)

Faculty of Social Work, Wilfred Laurier University

  •  For several years, Taylor Newberry Consulting has contributed to the continuing education and professional development of the Faculty of Social Work at Wilfred Laurier University, by delivering a two-day intensive workshop on program evaluation. The course is organized around simple, practical steps involved in conceiving, designing and implementing an evaluation project. It is designed for managers who are responsible for initiating and overseeing evaluation projects with limited resources, but it is also an excellent introduction for someone who expects program evaluation to be a more central component of their work.
