Assia (she/they) is a Toronto-based researcher, poet, and student. Assia holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Toronto, where she studied Professional Writing & Communication, English, and Sociology. She is currently completing her diploma in the Assaulted Women’s and Children’s Counsellor/Advocate program at George Brown College.

Assia has worked with Taylor Newberry Consulting since 2019 on the YWHO Integrated Youth Services Sites project, which focused on providing accessible youth mental health services, and the Groceries from the SEED project, a program that provides affordable groceries for communities experiencing food insecurity. Her lived experience has allowed her to bring a unique lens to projects that amplify the contributions of participants who are underrepresented.

Assia has been involved in the mental health sector since 2012 and is passionate about intersectionality, accessibility, harm reduction, system level change, and meaningful engagement. In the future, she plans to pursue a Master of Social Work, with a focus on providing accessible mental health and addictions services to underrepresented and systemically disadvantaged communities.
