Evaluation of Market Greens: The role of incentives in in promoting food access

Partner: Community Food Centres Canada

CFCC’s Market Greens pilot program was designed to promote food access by offering fruit and vegetable incentives to 320 families with low incomes that were redeemable at two markets in Ontario (Stratford and Midland). TNC evaluated the pilot using a mixed-methods approach including participant surveys, interviews with program participants, staff and partners at various points in time, and monitoring and tracking of program use. The evaluation framework was collaboratively designed with CFCC. TNC hired a team of two co-researchers (individuals with lived experience of food insecurity who lived in each of the communities) and provided training to support data collection in each of their communities. They were instrumental in data interpretation and provided significant context to the evaluation.
