Development and Evaluation of Respect2Connect: Reducing Violence in Teen Dating

Partner: BGC Canada

Designed to reduce teen dating violence, Respect2Connect supports youth to develop and sustain healthy relationships by equipping them with appropriate tools and techniques. TNC conducted a literature review on teen dating violence prevention programs and consulted with Club staff to test concepts, skills and design principles associated with design options. TNC consulted with BGCC staff and a curriculum developer to finalize the program, while also creating a program logic model to guide the evaluation. TNC then developed and implemented an evaluation framework for three Clubs that piloted the program. The framework included youth surveys and focus groups, staff focus groups and reflections, and photovoice carried out by youth. We went on to complete further evaluation of the program with an additional five Clubs, culminating in the delivery of a final report. The implementation of the program took place during the pandemic and we worked closely to adapt our evaluation methods in real time so that they aligned with the capacity of staff who were feeling strained. We also shared evaluation findings regularly with BGC Canada so that findings could be acted upon regularly.
